18-year-old jailed for terrorism offences after he was found with bomb making instructions

An 18-year-old has been jailed after he was found in posession of viable bomb making instructions. Mohammed Afzal, of Preston, posted extremist material that was deemed to 'encourage terrorism' on a number of social media accounts.

He also collected terrorist information, including directions on how ro make a bomb. He was arrested on suspicion of encouraging terrorism and the dissemination of terrorist publications, and later pleaded guilty to eight terrorism-related charges.

He was jailed for three years and nine months at Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday (August 2). Afzal was arrested in June 2022 and a number of electronic devices were seized from his home. At the time, he refused to provide the passcodes for the seized devices and he was released under investigation.
