A model who was once embarrassed to talk about her symptoms is now helping to raise awareness for chronic illnesses. Megan McNeill was just 17 when noticed she was passing blood when she went to the bathroom and was suffering from spells of diarrhoea, but felt too self-conscious to tell her mum.
However, after her symptoms worsened and she began experiencing severe fatigue and weight loss, the Lisburn teen made an appointment with her GP, who sent her straight to A&E.
The next day, she was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, a chronic illness where the colon and rectum become inflamed, Belfast Live reports.
Now 21, Megan has opened about her health battle and some of the tough moments she faced on her journey to a diagnosis."When I was 17, I was going to New York and my mum had found blood in the toilet so I had to tell her what was going on," she added."She got me an appointment with the GP for when we got back and I was sent for a flexisigmoidoscopy (a camera test).
