Is September's shift to cooler climes to blame or is Covid creeping back onto the scene? Currently, there's buzz about a new variant that's been identified: the XEC variant, which is reportedly making its rounds in the UK.

It was first identified in Berlin from Covid-19 samples collected in June. Experts have yet to signal any alarm bells that this strain throws up anything unexpected but the UK's Health Security Agency revealed today that there were 18,000 flu-related deaths over the past two winters and jab uptake has fallen.

What is spiking, however, according to the latest news from the UK Health Security Agency, is cases of seasonal flu. Even more so, the common cold, caused by rhinovirus, peaked in the week into September 2022, the highest point since winter last year.
