Energy customers struggling with bills are being warned they could end up paying higher rates. People have seen their bills go up since the start of October after Ofgem raised the price cap.
As a result, many may feel increased anxiety over being able to afford to pay their energy bills across the winter period. What's more, they may worry that energy firms may come to their homes and install pre-payment meters that can be more expensive.
From October 1, the price cap increased by 10 per cent to £1,717 a year for a typical dual-fuel household that pays via direct debit.
However, Les Roberts, Business Energy Comparison Expert at Bionic, warned that some of those struggling to pay their bills may face even higher rates as they could be forced into a different payment method by their supplier.
