Vandals armed with knives have been blamed for the latest damage to the dome around Ayr's Station Hotel. We told earlier today how another giant hole had been ripped in the side of the building's scaffolding protection. It is the latest massive exposure in the encasement around the hotel - which is costing South Ayrshire Council £64,000 per month.A number of craters blown in the scaffolding have been blamed on high winds in the past two years. But after investigating the latest damage, council chiefs believe vandals have struck at the site.Ayrshire Live understands foul play was uncovered at the tarpaulin protecting the hotel - with evidence of the white sheeting being 'slashed' by intruders. It marks the latest headache at the site with a number of holes in the dome remaining untreated following storm damage last month.A council spokesperson said: "The damage to the side panel was caused by vandalism and not the wind.
Contractors intend to fix it as soon as possible."Don't miss the latest Ayrshire headlines –sign up to our free daily newsletter here
