Aldi has managed to narrowly pip rival Lidl to be named the cheapest supermarket for 2022, according to the latest monthly research.
Consumer champion group Which? tracked the prices across eight major supermarket chains including Aldi, Asda, Lidl, Morrisons, Ocado, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Waitrose for each month last year.The monthly comparison found that Aldi managed to retain its crown as the cheapest supermarket from June to December, making it the cheapest for 2022 overall.
By comparison, its German rival Lidl was named the cheapest supermarket for five months from January to May. For December, the Which?
comparison tracked the cost of a basket of 48 groceries and found that the budget supermarket cost just £81.63, while Lidl came to a total of £83.24.
