A Lanarkshire dad caught with cannabis plants worth £28,000 has narrowly avoided a jail sentence. Wilson Grant, 59, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

The electricity meter had been bypassed."Police officers also recovered 13.3g of cocaine from a drawer in a bedroom."After studying background reports, Sheriff Linda Nicolson imposed a community payback order and warned Grant it was a direct alternative to prison.He must carry out 300 hours of unpaid work within a year.The sheriff also handed him a six-month electronic tagging order, meaning Grant is confined to his home between 7pm and 7am each day.
