Thousands of protestors waving placards and chanting ‘tourists go home’ marched through central Barcelona this weekend as anger continues to mount over mass tourism in Spain.

Tourists were sprayed with water guns during the rally on Saturday evening (July 6) that was attended by 2,800 demonstrators, according to local police, with holidaymakers urged to be cautious in its wake.

The march is the latest in a series of protests against overtourism that have swept the country this year. Protesters carried signs reading 'Barcelona is not for sale,' as chants of 'Tourists out of our neighbourhood' rang out across tourist hotspots including the city’s popular Las Ramblas district.
