April is finally here, which means there is no time like the present to book a quick getaway somewhere in the Scottish countryside.Everyone has their own idea of the perfect staycation spot, where it be an idyllic fishing village or a secluded island with a "comfy" garden tearoom.

If you are looking to narrow down the options, one area of the country that has been described as "the new Cornwall" seems like a good place to start.According to a survey involving more than 3,400 UK residents, the south of Scotland boasts many attractions similar to those found in popular tourist destinations like Cornwall and the Cotswolds.

However, many people remain unaware of what the region has to offer. The research, which was conducted by Yonder, identified that a demographic known as 'metropolitan adventurers' — a target market worth £2.1 billion — are missing out on the untapped attractions of the region.

This affluent group of people, who favour short and quick breaks to disconnect from daily life, would likely enjoy the outdoor activities, walking trails, cultural heritage, and natural beauty on offer in the south of Scotland.Among the highlights of the region for history enthusiasts is Drumlanrig Castle, which is situated on the Queensberry Estate in Dumfries and Galloway and dates back to the 14th century.
