Taylor Swift

Taylor Alison Swift is an American singer-songwriter. She is known for narrative songs about her personal life, which have received widespread media coverage. At age 14, Swift became the youngest artist signed by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house and, at 15, she signed her first record deal.

Her 2006 eponymous debut album was the longest-charting album of the 2000s in the US. Its third single, "Our Song", made her the youngest person to single-handedly write and perform a number-one song on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Swift's second album, Fearless, was released in 2008.

Buoyed by the pop crossover success of the singles "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me", it became the US' best-selling album of 2009 and was certified diamond in the US. The album won four Grammy Awards, and Swift became the youngest Album of the Year winner.

Amazon are the latest company to announce a base pay increase for thousands of workers across the country. The positive change will come into force in April when minimum wage laws will change following the start of the new financial year.

The move follows a range of companies who have confirmed a pay rise for workers. Companies including Pret a Manger and Costa announced pay rises in recent weeks, avoiding the risk of conflicting with UK-wide minimum living wage rules, with the rate to be increased to £10.42 per hour for over 25s next month.

Amazon's raise will see more than 50,000 employees across the UK benefit, with some workers to be paid £12 an hour based on location.

The rise follows cuts made by Amazon, with the business recently laying off many workers. The online retailer is set to cut a further 9,000 jobs across the world on top of the 18,000 already announced in January.
