Jon Stewart returned to host The Daily Show on Monday night, and it’s taking a toll on him, as he also helmed the show last Thursday. “I hosted on Thursday, and I’m back on Monday,” he jokingly said. “I just don’t know how much longer I could do this — barely any rest. [I] just slept in a hyperbaric chamber all weekend.” Stewart was absent from the show last Monday as he traded hosting duties for Thursday.
The move was to accommodate Stewart being in LA for the Netflix Is A Joke festival and appearing on John Mulaney’s live show.
Jordan Klepper took Monday, while Stewart took hosting duties on Thursday. Despite Stewart joking he barely got any rest from The Daily Show, it was recently announced he would be adding to his job duties with a new podcast from Comedy Central set to launch in June and titled The Weekly Show. “After much reflection, meditation, and prayer, I have decided to extend my work week to two days,” Stewart said in a statement. “All hail Comedy Central!” On Monday’s show, Stewart discussed Senator Menendez’s corruption trial and opened up the many examples of corruption in Congress.
Stewart returned to The Daily Show during the presidential election year, and the show will cover the Republican and Democratic National Conventions this summer.
