A man has been jailed after police responding to a violent disturbance found five guns including a Glock 17 pistol in a rucksack.

Ashley Shields, 40, has been brought to justice following police raids in Little Hulton, Salford. Police were informed of a violent disturbance in Little Hulton in March 2023 and after conducting enquiries, a warrant was executed at an address on Briar Hill Avenue.

During a search of the address, a rucksack was found in a wheelie bin at the rear of the property. Inside the bag was a large quantity of cocaine as well as a vacuum seal bag which contained a Glock 17 self-loading pistol, two empty magazine cartridges and a black plastic bag containing 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition. The DNA profile of Shields was identified on the trigger of the weapon. Shields was later traced to an address in Bolton and arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and ammunition.
