Teen admits stabbing Kennie Carter but claims he 'had to' in order to protect himself, murder trial hears

A teenager admitted stabbing Kennie Carter but claimed he ‘had to’ knife the 16-year-old to protect himself. The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denies murdering Kennie who died after being stabbed in Stretford, Trafford, on January 22, 2022.

Ten teenagers are standing trial at Manchester Crown Court accused of murder. Jabriel Ferguson, 19, of School Walk, Old Trafford; Latif Ferguson, 18, of the same address; and Rashaun Williams, 18, from Staffordshire; have all been charged with murder and manslaughter.

Seven other boys - all under 18 - have been charged with the same offences. They cannot be named for legal reasons. Kennie was allegedly murdered in 'revenge' following an 'incident' the day before, prosecutors allege. The teenager, referred to as Boy A in press reports, told jurors he travelled to Stretford on January 22 to ‘meet some girls’.
