Angelique Jackson As the 2024 Paris Olympics captures the zeitgeist, the “Summer of Gold” podcast — about the American female athletes who dominated the 1996 Atlanta games — is set to become a limited series.

Emmy winner Uzo Aduba (under her Meynon Media banner) and CBS studios will produce the TV adaptation of the successful six-part podcast.

Executive produced by basketball legend Sue Bird and soccer star Alex Morgan (both Olympic gold medalists themselves), “Summer of Gold” revisits the historic achievements of American female athletes at the 1996 summer Olympics in Atlanta, from the “Magnificent Seven” gymnasts to the USA women’s basketball, soccer and softball teams all winning gold, to the founding of the WNBA. “The 1996 Olympics were a transformative moment for women’s sports, and with the excitement building for the 2024 Games, it’s incredible to reflect on the progress made in the coverage and recognition of female athletes,” said Morgan in a statement about the partnership. “We look forward to championing these incredible athletes and their lasting impact on future generations.” The series aims to delve deeper into the stories of the athletes, their experiences and the legacy of the 1996 Games.

It will also address the ongoing issues of unfair media coverage, financial investment and gender equity in sports. Added Aduba: “The impact of 1996 by women in sports had a lasting reach on the world.
