Strictly Come Dancing bosses are reportedly set to make a major shake up to the popular show's format in the wake of abuse allegations by former contestants. It is believed the huge BBC competition is bringing back a weekly cap on practice hours which was introduced last year.

The cap will ensure celebrities and their professional dancers can only rehearse for around 48 hours per week, which equates to an average of eight hours per day with a day off.According to reports, the couples will be able to choose the hours they want to practice, but without exceeding the weekly total.

The weekly cap was established to create a level playing field between the contestants, The Mirror reports. A source told The Sun : "The celebs have been told they have to stick to the cap.

They're all incredibly competitive and desperate to do well. But bosses want to make sure everyone gets a fair crack of the whip, so they've laid out the rules." Former Love Island host Laura Whitmore, who was paired with Giovanni Pernice in 2016, said earlier this year that she didn't like "being removed from everybody" and "having to spend 12 hours a day with this one person." According to The Sun, the weekly cap helps make the competition fairer among celebrities since they all have different childcare and work commitments, as the source added: "The spread of hours across the week is completely up to each celebrity." The Mirror has contacted the BBC for comment. It comes as the BBC introduced some strict new rules for rehearsals, including chaperones who will be present in the room "at all times" while couples rehearse.
