Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has said the Magpies have not received any contact as of yet from Manchester United for Dan Ashworth.
United want to appoint Ashworth as their inaugural sporting director after impressive spells at the Football Association, West Bromwich Albion, Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle.
The 52-year-old currently holds the title of sporting director at St James' Park. Ashworth is understood to be keen on moving to Old Trafford as Ineos press ahead with their plan to restructure the club's hierarchy.
The chemical giant has already poached Omar Berrada from Manchester City to become the club's new chief executive and they are interested in Southampton's director of football, Jason Wilcox.
