After a challenging week for the Princess of Wales, it's been claimed that she has been understandably left "very sad" that such a well-meaning gesture was the topic of such criticism.The decision to share a new image to mark Mothering Sunday was instantly heralded as the beginning of Kate’s much-anticipated return to public life - as well as a clear refute to all the bizarre conspiracy theories.

However, on Sunday night, the Associated Press issued a “kill order” - an industry term for retracting an image. “At closer inspection, it appears that the source has manipulated the image,” the AP said in its advisory. “No replacement photo will be sent.” While she is undoubtedly leaning on her family and friends for support, Kate previously opened up about how she handles criticism in such a public-facing and scrutiny.

When they announced their engagement in November 2010, the couple offered an insight into their thoughts on their role during their interview with Tom Bradby.Tom asked Kate: "You have said your family are very close, does it hurt about what's said or do you let it run off all your collective backs on the grounds that's just what you have to live with?" Kate answered: "Again I think, the people around home are very supportive to us and those are the people who really matter to us, our close friends and close family.
