EXCLUSIVE: Netflix has picked up UK rights to Kaur, a short film that debuted last year on British streamers ITVX and BritBox.

The film is set to drop on Netflix in the second window on May 3 following the deal for film, which is from Parvinder Shergill and Juggy Sohal.

Shergill stars opposite Stephen Uppal (Hollyoaks). Kaur bills itself as “the first film in history” to follow the story of a British Sikh woman (Shergill), who decides to wear a turban for the first time against her father’s wishes.

Her mother (Nina Wadia), is supportive of the decision, but struggles with the tensions it causes. A full-length feature film version is in development, Shergill told Deadline, with her Pinder Productions and Sohal’s Flip The Script Network attached, the same production set-up as the short.
