The SNP and Labour have both claimed only they can offer voters change as the Rutherglen and Hamilton West by-election campaign enters its final week.Voters in the South Lanarkshire constituency will go to the polls on October 5 to finally settle an electoral race that has been running for months.The by-election was called after former MP Margaret Ferrier was found to have broken strict covid lockdown rules and subsequently faced a recall petition.Labour are the bookmakers' favourite to win the contest which would hand them a huge boost going into next year's general election campaign.But SNP campaigners have claimed the race is closer than many people assume - and will be won by the party that can get its core support out on polling day.Katy Loudon, the SNP candidate, promised she would always put the interests of local voters first.She said: "Households across Rutherglen and Hamilton West are paying the price for the Westminster's economic carnage and they need an MP who will stand up for their interests at every turn."With just one week to go until polls open, I am making one simple promise to people across my community - I will always put your interests, your priorities and your voice first.
