SFA ‘strongly dispute’ Rangers version of VAR showdown meeting

Rangers and SFA chiefs were last night at war amid claim and counterclaim over their VAR audio play-back session.Gers chiefs James Bisgrove and Craeg Robertson yesterday met with Hampden referees head Crawford Allan to go through the recording of the on-field back and forth between Saturday’s Old Firm Nick Walsh and telly official Willie Collum.The furious Light Blues requested a sit down after demanding answers on the controversial decision which saw Philippe Clement’s side denied a Parkhead penalty during the 2-1 loss to Celtic.

A club spokesman later claimed the meeting had reached an “overriding consensus” that the officials had made the WRONG call not pointing to the spot after replays showed Alistair Johnston clearly handling the ball in the box.The SFA have chosen to make no comment in response but Record Sport understands Hampden chiefs strongly dispute the club’s account of the meeting with Allan.Johnston appeared to slap the ball out of play during a tussle Abdallah Sima - but the incident would have proved irrelevant because of an offside call against the on-loan Brighton ace in the build-up.But the Ibrox board have suspected since the weekend that the offside infringement was not spotted at the time of their spot-kick appeal and have been looking for an explanation as to why Collum did not send Walsh to the monitor for a second look at the Johnston incident.Now they insist their suspicions have been proved correct after finally being granted an audience by the SFA to hear the VAR recording.Hampden sources, though, are adamant the penalty appeal was a subjective call and insist the offside aspect was being checked in the background as Collum talked through his view of the handball claim.With neither side
