Scotland's recent Covid surge may have peaked, data suggests

A public health expert suggests that Scotland's recent surge in Covid-19 cases may have hit its peak, as the latest data reveals a slight decrease in cases.

Dr Kimberly Marsh, an experienced healthcare scientist from Public Health Scotland, shared insights dismissing similarities between the coronavirus and seasonally patterned diseases such as flu.

Latest figures, valid for the week concluding July 14, showed 1130 cases, a decline from 1245 the previous week.In her discussion with BBC Radio Scotland's The Sunday Show, Dr Marsh highlighted: "Our data in Scotland shows that there has been an increase in Covid-19 and this has been really seen since mid April, with a steeper increase in June."There are, however, some early signals that this wave may have peaked, but our data are still provisional for this week."Dr Marsh highlighted potential reasons behind the summer case hike, including the new variant dubbed KP.
