One mum-of-five has made a cost-cutting move many would consider to be drastic - cutting out cereal from the shopping list.Simone Roberts and husband Mark work hard to make their money stretch as far as possible for their family of seven.

Like many parents, the two also want to serve their children nutritious food and do their part to avoid food waste. With rising food bills and the cost of living crisis looming, the family decided to change the way they eat.

Now that the Roberts family have switched up their breakfast, they have found they are eating healthier and saving £100 a month. As reported by BirminghamLive, One major move was to avoid sugary breakfasts, which means cutting the £3 box of cereal the family was going through every day. "We’re doing everything on a budget now, we’ve even changed the way we eat," said Simone, whose five children are aged two to 10 and with older daughter who has moved out. "We are having no sugar breakfasts now and that’s cut the price down. “If we ate cereal, we would get through a box a day as there would be seven of us eating it.

A box of cereal is around £3 in the supermarket, so that’s £3 a day, especially as we don’t like cereals full of sugar so end up going for the more expensive granolas." Simone added: "Instead of cereal, I buy beans, lentils and reduced fruit and veg that's near to its sell by date.
