He represented his nation once again this summer in France at Le Golf National alongside team-mate Shane Lowry.McIlroy had a shift in perspective from his previous stance that a major victory held higher esteem in his books.
Ahead of the Rio Olympics in 2016, which he snubbed playing in, he said: "I never dreamed of competing in the Olympics or winning an Olympic medal.
So in my mind, a major will always be more important."Yet, during this year's Games, McIlroy expressed a newfound reverence for Olympic success, stating it could mark the crowning achievement of his recent career.
