Residents encouraged to get Covid-19 Spring booster jabs as NHS Ayrshire & Arran roll out vaccination clinics
dailyrecord.co.ukEligible patients across Ayrshire are being encouraged to get their Covid-19 spring booster jabs as the health board hosts vaccination clinics in venues across the region.Teams throughout NHS Ayrshire & Arran are rolling out the latest iteration of the Covid-19 vaccination programme, helping those most vulnerable to maintain protection levels against the virus.Care home residents’ vaccinations have already begun, as have visits to housebound patients who are eligible.Those aged 75 and over continue to be prompted for the uptake of the vaccine via blue envelope appointments, encouraging them to visit local vaccine clinics for their spring booster dose.And from next month, people aged five years and over with a weakened immune system will also be called forward for another vaccine.Lynne McNiven, NHSA&A Public Health Director, said “it’s really important” to get your spring booster if you’re eligible as Covid-19 remains in society.She said: “Booster doses are safe, effective, and help to top up your protection against serious illness from the virus.“Prioritising those most at risk has been our approach from the outset and vaccination has been our most effective tool against Covid-19.“However, the degree of protection offered does fade over time, which is why booster vaccination is needed.”Patients who receive an appointment with an unsuitable date, time or venue, are urged to reschedule it online or by calling the National Vaccination Helpline (0800 030 8013), helping to free up your appointment for someone else.Ms McNiven added: “The Covid-19 spring booster programme is key to protecting the most vulnerable among us and I’d like to thank our vaccinators, support staff and all those who continue to come forward for
