Protests planned before Scotland vs Israel clash at Hampden

Protests have been organised before Scotland's behind-closed-doors Euro 2025 clash with Israel this week. The Scots women's national team host Israel on Friday, May 31, as they look to secure a place at the competition in Switzerland next summer.

The return game is scheduled to be played in Hungary on June 4, and is also set to be played without fans in the stadium.However, with the conflict in the Middle East, fans have been banned from the ground in fear that the game could be disrupted.If Scotland did not play the fixtures they would lose both ties 3-0 but some groups have criticised the Scottish Football Association's decision allow the games to take place.Maree Shepherd from Show Israel the Red Card, said: “By allowing the match to go ahead, the SFA has chosen not to hold Israel to account for war crimes and to effectively side with genocide.“Even after months of carpet-bombing Gaza and denying starving Palestinians access to food and water and as Israeli tanks advance into Rafah, the SFA sees no problem with Israel competing.“Instead, it has chosen to go even further in its quest to protect Israel from criticism by playing the game behind closed doors, penalising both players and spectators.“The double standards could not be starker when you consider that following its invasion of Ukraine, Russia has not been allowed to compete and remains barred from all football federations.”The Scottish Friends of Palestine group has announced a protest organised at Hampden before the game.

They said: "While Israel can play matches on the playing fields of Europe, innocent Palestinians are detained, tortured and interrogated on the playing fields of in Gaza."The Gaza Genocide Emergency Committee has also organised a protest
