A pharmacist has issued a warning over a surge in head lice cases that can affect people of any age - but especially those in the younger generation.Superdrug has reported a 121 per cent spike in sales of their head lice treatment spray as they noted the recent hotter weather being a trigger for infestations.

Bristol Live reports a health expert has now shared some advice on how to deal with the little pests that burrow into your scalp.Niamh McMillan, Superdrug’s Pharmacy Superintendent, has explained what head lice are, how to treat them and how to prevent them during the summer months.Head lice are little insects that live in your hair and lay their eggs near the centre of your scalp.

This condition can affect anyone but are more common among those aged four to 12 years old.During the hotter months, there is a tendency for head lice to spread easier due to the transmission being more common from head-to-head as kids play together outside.If you think you or your child has head lice then the first step is to inspect the scalp.

You should only begin the treatment once you can see the little insects crawling in the hair.The wet-combing method is the most popular way to remove head lice from your hair.
