The NHS 'soups and shakes' diet could help people with type 2 diabetes to put the condition "in remission", according to a new study.
New research indicates that those who stick to the stringent diet and lifestyle programme can lose a substantial amount of weight.
Nearly a third of people could see their type 2 diabetes go into remission, according to the findings published in the journal Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology.
The year-long scheme encourages dieters to kick-start their weight loss through a 12-week low-calorie "meal replacement" plan involving soups, shakes, and bars, consuming just 800 to 900 calories a day.
