Newarthill author whose life was saved by former addicts hopes his book will help others find road to recovery

A Newarthill man who overcame addiction issues and homelessness has written a book about his life experiences.Liam Mimnaugh entered a rehabilitation centre in Dundee in 2011, a short time after leaving he met his wife Dawn and settled in Fife.Before that Liam had hit rock bottom, his life had spiralled out of control due to cocaine and alcohol abuse.The 44-year-old, originally from Carfin and a joiner to trade, sold his tools to keep his habit going and ended up in and out of rehab centres up and down the UK.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

He said: “I put them through hell and my own health is crap, as my mobility has gone due to issues with my back. I can’t get out there to help others so the book is me doing my bit for the cause, if you get what I mean, it’s to give hope to addicts and their families because the illness affects everyone. "The drink has wiped out half my family.

Addicts are just sick people needing a bit of compassion to sort themselves out, like it did for me.“I want to show people that it can be done.
