A centre for a rapidly growing new form of tennis is earmarked for a site in Prestwich. Pure Padel Clubs have submitted plans to build five courts, a pavilion and floodlights on land at the Manchester Maccabi Community andSports Club, Bury Old Road.
Padel is a mix between tennis and squash. The court is one third of the size of a tennis court and surrounded by walls of glass and metallic mesh.
Using a short, stringless racquet with holes and a low compression tennis ball, service is made underarm. A design and access report in support of the plans, said: “Padel is a form of tennis which and rapidly expanding sport across Europe and recognised by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA). “The LTA have ambitious plans to grow padel across Great Britain over the coming years.
