Netflix has cancelled yet another series after just two seasons, but fans of the show have said “it’s for the best.” The streaming giant has confirmed that American drama Sex/Life will not be returning to the platform following the conclusion of its second season last month.

The series – inspired by BB Easton’s novel 44 Chapters About 4 Men – follows married housewife Billie (Sarah Shahi) as she reconnects with an old boyfriend during a midlife crisis.

Its first season proved popular when it debuted in 2021 but its second failed to have the same impact. A Netflix spokesperson confirmed to Deadline that they would not be moving forward with the show as its second season brought it to “a natural close” and wrapped up the storylines for its key characters.

However, showrunner Stacy Rukeyser previously revealed plans to continue the story, telling The Hollywood Reporter that the final episode “was never intended to be a series finale.” READ MORE: The raunchy new Netflix thriller that will leave viewers hot under the collar “The episode was never intended to be a series finale, that’s for sure,” she said. “I know there are always more stories to tell with these characters and I hope we get the chance to tell those stories.” The show’s star Shahi recently revealed she had been unhappy with the show’s second season, saying that it “became a much different thing” since its first run.
