Sir Alex Ferguson joked that his late wife Lady Cathy would have killed him for recently spending £650,000 on two horses, following his excellent win in the Bahrain International Trophy last week.
The former Manchester United manager landed a £500,000 prize after his homebred horse Spirit Dancer, trained by Richard Fahey and ridden by Oisin Orr, crossed the line in first place.
A video of Ferguson and co-owner Ged Mason celebrating the victory went viral over the weekend. Ferguson started getting seriously into horse racing during his time as United boss, initially using it as a release from football.
But after retiring in 2013, the Scot has been more involved, both mentally and financially, and admitted his late wife would have been far from happy with some of the money flying around.
