Martin Scorsese
Martin Charles Scorsese Italian (born November 17, 1942) is an American filmmaker and actor, whose career spans more than 50 years. Part of the New Hollywood wave of filmmaking, he is widely regarded as one of the most significant and influential filmmakers in cinematic history. Scorsese's body of work explores such themes as Italian-American identity, Catholic concepts of guilt and redemption? faith, machismo, modern crime, and gang conflict. Many of his films are also known for their depiction of violence and liberal use of profanity. In 1990, he founded The Film Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to film preservation, and in 2007 he founded the World Cinema Foundation. He is a recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award for his contributions to the cinema, and has won an Academy Award, a Palme d'Or, Cannes Film Festival Best Director Award, Silver Lion, Grammy Award, Emmys, Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and Directors Guild of America Awards.

It was thanks to two unconventional releases — “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” and “Killers of the Flower Moon,” one distributed by an exhibitor and the other backed by a major streaming service — that anyone went to the movies at all.

It may get worse before it gets better. Hollywood hoped SAG-AFTRA and studios would resolve their contract negotiations by the end of October.

But the strike drags on, preventing major stars from promoting their new films and adding to exhibitors’ anxieties about the upcoming holiday season. “The lack of any resolution in labor conflicts is bad news for movie theaters,” says Shawn Robbins, chief analyst at Boxoffice Pro. “The longer the strike goes on, we approach that worst-case scenario of impact.

In 2018, Ben Foster and Thomasin McKenzie starred in a wilderness drama called Leave No Trace in which a father taught his daughter to live off the grid well out of view of “civilization.” I thought of that as I viewed the new thriller The Marsh King’s Daughter, but for some reason this story kept reminding me more of 1962’s terrifying suspense drama Cape Fear, as well as its Martin Scorsese-directed 1991 remake. Maybe it is just because of the remote setting and a key character who comes back and sparks terror in the hearts of a family that didn’t know what they were in for.
