Olivia Rodrigo ‘Guts (Spilled)’ Digital Deluxe Edition Coming, With Brand New Song Joining Vinyl Rarities

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic Olivia Rodrigo fans who wanted to own all of her “Guts” bonus tracks until now had to develop an expensive Discogs habit, since copies of the very limited vinyl editions that included them have commanded collectors’ prices, and the songs were not put up for streaming. But those extra tracks will finally be made available in a more widespread way with this Friday’s release of “Guts (Spilled),” a deluxe edition that puts the four previously vinyl-only tracks up for digital consumption — while throwing in a fifth, brand-new bonus track to boot.

Olivia Rodrigo reflects on one year of ‘Sour’: “It’s impossible to sum up how much this album means to me”
Olivia Rodrigo shared a post reflecting on its creation and subsequent success.‘Sour’ was an immediate smash-hit upon its release last May, leading Rodrigo to smash multiple chart records; she gave the US’ Billboard 200 chart the biggest first-week figures it’d seen for 2021, made UK chart history as the first female artist with three of the top five singles in the same week, and became the youngest artist to land a UK Number One on two concurrent charts – a milestone that she hit two weeks in a row.In the months since its release, the album has racked up 15 Platinum certificates across seven countries, including three each in the US, Canada and Norway.Honouring the record’s first birthday, Rodrigo said it was “impossible for [her] to sum up in words how much this album means to [her] and how grateful [she is] to have gotten the privilege to make it and watch it exist in the world”. She also gave a shoutout to producer Dan Nigro, and thanked “everyone who has embraced [her] 17 year old lamentations and forever changed [her] life in the process”.A post shared by Olivia Rodrigo (@oliviarodrigo)‘Sour’ was released on May 21, 2021 via Geffen, flanked her breakout hit ‘Driver’s License’, as well as singles ‘Deja Vu’, ‘Good 4 U’, ‘Brutal’ and ‘Traitor’.

Alexander 23 shares new single co-written by Olivia Rodrigo, ‘Hate Me If It Helps’
Alexander 23 has shared a brand new single, ‘Hate Me If It Helps’, co-written by Olivia Rodrigo. The sprawling indie-pop cut marks the return of the Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and producer (real name Alexander Glantz) following the release of his 2021 EP, ‘Oh No, Not Again!’.Happy to be labelled a “bad guy” post-breakup in order for an ex to get closure, the song’s chorus hears Alexander sing: “You can hate me if it helps/ Make me out to be the villain/ Say you’re better by yourself/ So it feels like your decision/ You can tell ’em I’m the bad guy if it helps you sleep okay/ Because all you want is closure, but there’s nothing left to say/ So you can hate me if it helps/ You can hate me if it helps.”Co-written with Rodrigo – who Alexander worked with on her chart-topping hit ‘Good 4 U’ – it arrives with a beautifully shot, self-directed video. You can watch it below. This year looks set to be a big one for Alexander, whose yet-to-be-titled debut album is scheduled to arrive sometime in 2022, produced by Dan Nigro. He’s also about to head out on tour with John Mayer as support on the singer-songwriter’s ‘Sob Rock’ tour, which kicks off on February 17 in Albany, New York, and ends in Chicago, Illinois, on April 29. Yebba will also offer support.Meanwhile, John Mayer‘s first solo gig in two years was briefly interrupted this week when he was alerted to an audience member in need of medical attention. On Wednesday night (February 9), the ‘New Light’ hitmaker took to the stage at the Hollywood Palladium as part of SiriusXM and Pandora’s ‘Small Stages’ series.
