Motorists furious to miss Pitlochry's Enchanted Forest because they are caught in A9 roadworks delays

Furious business bosses have dubbed lengthy road works choking traffic along the A9 at Dunkeld “a fiasco” while local MSP John Swinney reported his calls for the work to be suspended had been ignored.He fumed that SGN, the gas company involved, had given him “meaningless reassurances” and that the delays for motorists in Perthshire were “appalling”.Organisers of the Enchanted Forest light show in Pitlochry have also slammed the delays.The work to lay a gas pipeline is estimated to take 19 weeks and was agreed by Perth and Kinross Council.The project at Inver outside Dunkeld is being managed with traffic lights so only one stream is able to pass through the pinch point at any one time.Yesterday SGN put in a recovery truck to get break-downs away but the company shows no sign of calling off the unpopular project.Frustrating delays – some drivers reported being at a standstill for three hours on Friday 27 – in both north and south directions have been reported all over social media with calls to get the work rescheduled.Posting on social media page A9 Traffic Info Hilary Neilson complained: “This week’s disaster at Dunkeld has been an utter fiasco.“Countless people had their days and probably their sanity hammered on Monday 23 with huge delays.“Friday 27 appears to have been just as bad.“We can’t have this every week until February 2024.“We have 62,000 members on this group.
