Meghan and Harry's Montecito mansion is a far cry from their former property in the UK before they stepped down from the Royal Family.After quitting life as senior working royals, the couple left behind their historic Frogmore Cottage home in the heart of the Windsor estate to start a new chapter in the United States.However, the keys to their former home, which was gifted to the couple by the late Queen, were only just handed back recently after they were officially evicted by the property earlier this year.But it seems that in the beginning, the couple may actually have had their eye on a completely different property together but Harry's late grandmother "firmly" denied their request and gave them Frogmore Cottage instead.

According to reports, the Sussexes wanted to live in Windsor Castle itself and allegedly asked if "living quarters could be made available after their marriage", the Mirror reports.

At the time, only the late Queen and Prince Philip had private apartments within the actual castle, with everyone else living elsewhere on the estate.The monarch is said to have "politely but firmly suggested" that they live in nearby Frogmore Cottage instead.

Royal author and historian Hugo Vickers previously told The Times: "There are empty bedrooms and suites in the private apartments which the Sussexes may have had their eye on, or perhaps some former living quarters in the castle grounds converted into other things."But I can see how it might not be entirely appropriate to have a young family living there."However, before they were gifted Frogmore, a number of other homes in Windsor were reportedly put forward as possible properties for the couple.One of the options being Adelaide Cottage, which is now the home of
