A Masters student threw a flare during a match at Old Trafford and injured a disabled woman. Leicester City supporter Amar Raithatha, 26, ignited the blue smoke flare and launched it towards the lower tier area after they scored against Manchester United in April this year.

The flare fell and landed near to the feet of a 69-year-old woman who was sitting in the disabled section of the lower tier.

The woman was ‘engulfed’ in blue smoke which caused her eyes to sting. Manchester Magistrates Court heard that she used water to ‘clean’ her eyes before going for first aid attention.

Fortunately she suffered no serious injuries.
