Manchester United youngster Maxi Oyedele is set for his first taste of the Football League after joining League Two strugglers Forest Green Rovers for the rest of the campaign.

The 19-year-old had a youth loan at Altrincham last term but this will be his first taste of action in the EFL and he will be challenged at The New Lawn Stadium, with Forest Green making the news this week after manager Troy Deeney criticised his players.

Rovers haven't won a League Two fixture since October 28 and are seven points adrift of safety at the foot of the table. Deeney was appointed on December 20 but is yet to win a game and turned on his players after a defeat to Harrogate at the weekend. But what is going to have to happen is the sledgehammers are going to have to come out and there are going to be a lot of people that won’t like it, but I do not really care. “My job is to try and save this football club in the short term, but also to put it in a better place moving forward and at the moment there are too many babies and that is not just young players, there are too many babies from top to bottom.” Oyedele can play in defence but has been operating in midfield of late for United's academy sides, with experience in the Premier League 2, the EFL Trophy and the UEFA Youth League in 2023/24.
