Concerns have been raised over the impact a major new Perth development will have on traffic. On Wednesday, September 6 Perth and Kinross councillors unanimously approved an updated application by The John Dewar Lamberkin Trust to expand Perth west of Broxden and the A9.The southern half of the Perth West masterplan comprises shops, hotels, a primary school, healthcare centre, the 26-hectare Perth Eco-Innovation Park, up to 1500 homes and is predicted to bring 2300 jobs plus 3000 temporary construction jobs. The masterplan also includes: business units; shops; food and drinks outlets; hotels; a bus depot; car park; Perth Innovation Highway; vehicle fuelling/charging centre; a new A9 junction; A9 Broxden underpass and road network, as well footways and cycle paths. The in-principle masterplan was approved in June 2021 subject to a legal agreement securing developer contributions and further obligations.

Following the conclusion of a "complex" legal agreement process Perth and Kinross Council's Planning and Placemaking Committee was asked to make an updated decision on Wednesday.Initial access to the development would be via a new underpass constructed under the A9 and accessed via Tweed Place near Broxden Business Park.Perth City South councillor Liz Barrett addressed the committee with concerns raised by residents in Oakbank and the Western Edge.

Making a deputation, Liberal Democrat councillor Liz Barrett said: "The underpass will come out onto Lamberkine Drive between the Park and Ride roundabout on Glasgow Road and Cedar Drive/ Ettrick Drive.

The traffic, emissions and dust will impact residents in much of the Western Edge and Oakbank, and those using the paths in the area on foot or by cycle.
