LA-based label Stones Throw has announced plans to release a compilation album of artists covering songs from Haruomi Hosono’s 1974 album, Hosono House.
The album will mark 50 years of the Happy End and Yellow Magic Orchestra musician's solo debut and will feature contributions from Sam Gendel, John Carroll Kirby, and more.
Mac DeMarco's cover of "Boku Wa Chotto" is the first release from the album and can be heard below. "Hosono is my hero," DeMarco (who performed with his idol in 2019) says in a statement. "I love all of his music, I am eternally at his every beck and call, it is my honor to be a part of this compilation.
I recorded this cover in Joe Bird's guest room in Paris, August 2023. I hope my Japanese pronunciation isn’t too horrible."
