Loose Women aired a Coronation Street special on Thursday (August 15), featuring Denise Welch, Sally Dynevor who plays Sally Webster and Sue Cleaver, known for her role as Eileen Grimshaw, alongside presenter Kaye Adams.
The panel delved into memories of their first days on the set of the ITV soap, with Denise sharing a particularly nerve-wracking experience involving Barbara Knox, who portrays Rita Fairclough.
Denise, 66, who brought to life the character of Natalie Barnes in Weatherfield, recounted: "I remember being terrified when I had to do a scene with Rita, Barbara Knox, because Barbara is wonderful but she is like Dame Barbara, quite intimidating." She continued, revealing the daunting task of her script: "I read the script and I've got to call Rita Fairclough a cow, and honestly it was the most terrifying thing.
She was so lovely to me but it was weird because Coronation Street had been on my tele for years - from when I was six years old, it was so iconic and I loved it." Denise also highlighted the need for better support for newcomers to the show: "But I did say to the producer you have got to get some kind of starter pack for the young ones come in because their lives are going to change with a month of being on television.", reports the Daily Star.
