Leeds riots: Kids were taken into care by police 'over fears they were leaving UK'

Four children that sparked riots in Leeds after they were taken into care by police, were removed due to a tip that they were leaving the UK.Officials feared that the siblings were going to be taken to Romania or Cyprus, Leeds family court heard.

But on Tuesday a Judge said the children, aged between eight and 14, can now be released from temporary foster care. A court heard that the children had been “extremely upset” and had not settled in foster care but have now been taken back to live at their uncle’s home while proceedings continue, reports the Mirror.The four Romanian Roma children were in danger of being split up in foster care if an approved placement could not be found and following their reunion, the family were asked not to take to the streets to celebrate and to keep “calm” for the sake of the children.Reacting to the news all four children were going to live with their uncle, their mum tapped her heart and said: “I’m glad the children are back with the family.”Justice Trotter Jackson, sitting at Leeds Family Court on Tuesday, told the family listening to proceedings with the help of an interpreter, their four children could now go and live with their uncle.But she warned: “I think it is important that everyone focuses on the children's welfare and taking the temperature down in this case.
