Larkhall Harriers record fast times as they tackle annual Fairholm Race

Athletes from Larkhall YMCA Harriers tackled the club’s long-running Fairholm Race recently, with some strong showings from their junior and senior runners.One of the oldest races in the club’s history, it has been going for decades with the hilly course cutting through Chatelherault Country Park on its way back to Larkhall.This year, due to a fallen tree on the route, the usual course had to be altered resulting in an additional large hill to climb on March 10.The juniors’ route took them from Larkhall to the Gates of Chatelherault and there was a decent turnout taking on the two-mile course.Laci McNulty set the fastest time for the girls in 13.40, with Sophie Brennan only one second behind her and Emma Dooey was third in 15.03.For the boys, the first to finish was George Brown in 14.17, with Michael Marden second in 14.52 and in third was Gavin Lee in 16.24.Nathan Dooey, Ross Kinkade, Josh Holland, Emily Thomson, Amy Davidson and Aaron Scott also took part.In the senior women’s race, Julie Hill took the trophy in a time of 30.19, followed by Rona McPherson in second place with a time of 32.48.For the men, Rhys Thomson was first back, lifting his first ever senior road race trophy in a time of 32.49, beating his father Willie Thomson into second place with a time of 36.53.

In third place was David McNulty in 35.10.
