Boardwalk Empire alumna Kelly Macdonald is returning to HBO as a series regular opposite Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre in Lanterns, the network’s drama based on the Green Lantern DC comic.
The series from Ozark’s Chris Mundy, Watchmen‘s Damon Lindelof and comic book writer Tom King follows new recruit John Stewart (Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
Macdonald will play Sheriff Kerry, a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town. Her resilience, shaped by a complex past that’s hardened her resolve, anchors her when the community’s secrets begin to surface.
The character is believed to be a potential love interest for Chandler’s Hal Jordan. The eight-episode Lanterns is produced by HBO in association with Warner Bros Television and DC Studios.
