Lanarkshire schools to close for January strikes

Lanarkshire’s schools are to close to pupils during the first days of the new term as teaching union members stage strike action in the national pay dispute.Primary schools and term-time nursery classes will be shut on Tuesday, January 10, with secondary schools then shutting in turn the following day.

All schools in North Lanarkshire are then due to be closed on January 19 and those in South Lanarkshire on February 3 as part of a rolling programme of action impacting each council area across Scotland in turn.

All of the authority’s primaries, additional support needs (ASN) schools for primary pupils, the combined-age ASN schools at Redburn and Glencryan and its 57 term-time, school-based nursery classes will be closed this Tuesday, January 10, which is the second day back following the Christmas holiday.Every high school plus secondary ASN establishments and all of Portland School will then be closed on Wednesday, January 11; as members of teaching unions the EIS, Scottish Secondary Teachers’ Association, NASUWT and the Association of Head Teachers
