Building work starts at new North Lanarkshire housing development

Construction work is underway on 19 new council houses at a £4.1 million development in Coatbridge. A ceremony took place to mark the start of work at Berwick Street in Shawhead; which is one of nine sites across North Lanarkshire where building projects are currently taking place.

The new development will include three wheelchair-suitable properties, and is described by the council as “a mix of 19 affordable family homes”.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

She said of the construction programme: “We’re making real progress and are working towards the significant milestone of our 1000th new home, delivering first-class homes meeting needs now and for generations to come. “They’re designed and built to the highest standards, are highly energy-efficient as we’re embracing renewable technologies and building greener, and are designed for varying needs meaning they adapt over time to suit tenants.” North Lanarkshire is aiming to provide 5000 new homes by 2035, with 970 having been delivered so far.The site at Shawhead is supported by a contribution from the Scottish Government.
