Brendan Rodgers insists he’s focused on recruiting more quality to his Celtic squad this month despite the boost of keeping Kyogo Furuhashi on home soil.Kyogo was a shock omission when Japan boss Hajime Moriyasu named his squad for the Asia Cup - a decision which means the little talisman will be free to spearhead Rodgers’ attack when the domestic season resumes at the end of this month.
Compatriots Reo Hetate and Daizen Maeda have been drafted up for the competition which runs for a month from January 14.To add to Rodgers’ woes, South Korea have also called up Oh Hyeon-gyu and Yang Hyun-jun, further depleting his attacking options going into the New Year.
But Rodgers says he remains relaxed about the situation as he prepares to add to his squad in the January sales.Asked what the club’s fans might expect now that the transfer market is open for business Rodgers replied: “I don’t know, I don’t know.
I’ll tell you once they’re announced, once they’re in. I’m relaxed but focused. I want quality. And that’s what we need to improve.”Rodgers is likely to press ahead with his recruitment plans even though he has been boosted by yesterday’s news of Kyogo’s international snub.
