Any hope of Celtic signing Owen Beck were killed off after he was handed a Liverpool runout in the Premier League. The former Dundee loanee has been on the transfer radar at Parkhead, with the champions and rivals Rangers having enquiries rejected by the reds earlier this month. Record Sport revealed that Brendan Rodgers was preparing to back in for a second time in an attempt to land Beck permanently from the Anfield club.
However, that hinged on whether or not Jurgen Klopp gave him a first top team appearance. And the move was scuppered when Beck was brought off the bench during Liverpool's 4-0 English Premier League win at Bournemouth.
FIFA rules prevent players turning out for more than two clubs in a single season. Having already starred for Tony Docherty's Dark Blues during the first half of the season, Beck's introduction at the Vitality Stadium meant he won't be going anywhere in January - unless it's back to Dens. The Hoops could try again in the summer, however.
Beck still has two-and-a-hald years left to ruin on his deal, so a fee would need to be paid. But the chance of regular first team football and a potential foray into the Champions League could prove tempting for him, especially returning to a league he already has experience of.Follow Record Sport on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for all of the up-to-the minute breaking news, video and audio on the SPFL, the Scotland national team and beyond. You can also follow our dedicated Rangers and Celtic podcast pages and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season.
