Keith Lasley insists a wholesale return to Reserve League football would not be the “silver bullet” in solving Scotland’s youth development woes.

The St Mirren chief operating officer shared his views after a comprehensive SFA report concluded that clubs weren’t doing enough to bring through young players.

It was shown that players under the age of 21 were getting fewer minutes in Scotland when compared to similar countries such as Croatia, Denmark and Norway.

The gap between Under-18s football and first-team level was highlighted as an area of concern – in the past, a Reserve League has filled this void to provide experience.
