Kate Garraway fights back tears as she says she’s ‘ashamed’ to be in debt after cost of Derek's care

Kate Garraway has opened up about the debt she's in after caring for her late husband, admitting she is "ashamed".The Good Morning Britain presenter has revealed that despite having a "well paid job", she "couldn't make it work" with her finances, due to the staggering cost of care.

Kate, 56, tragically lost her husband Derek Draper in January after he became seriously ill with Covid-19 in March 2020. Derek subsequently spent 100 days in a coma and required round-the-clock care and treatment until his death.The mum-of-two appeared on GMB on Tuesday, 26 March, to speak about her new documentary, Kate Garraway: Derek's Story, which will air on ITV on Tuesday night.

Kate explained the cost of caring for her late husband and shared her support for care workers. Host Richard Madeley stated: "You're very frank in the documentary.

I mean, you're broke, you're bust - you're beyond bust." To which Kate agreed, as she opened up about the debt she has found herself in. "Yeah, I am.
