Kate Garraway has opened up about her reaction to the gripping documentary about her husband Derek Draper's challenging battle with COVID-19.

Speaking on This Morning, with hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, the Good Morning Britain star admitted that she was unable to talk "for about an hour" after she watched Derek's Story. "I couldn't really speak for about an hour after that, it was sort of a humour reaction", explained Kate, leaving co-host Ben finding her response "quite unusual".The 56 year old then revealed: "I couldn't really speak, I was overwhelmed, it was raw.Things that jumped out at me were the unbelievable frustration of seeing how well he was doing, how much progress he'd made, for him to struggle so hard and he fought for so long...That's just a personal sadness for me." She had to endure seeing her husband's health decline alarmingly over four years, after he caught COVID-19 in March 2020.

Despite all this, Kate reflected on his battle as having purpose, acknowledging all the care workers who helped, saying "These four years had purpose, they were precious.

It's not pointless. Life is life." Former political advisor Derek Draper needed non-stop care from health professionals and the support of a carer named Jake, who he was close with before his heartbreaking death on January 3, 2024, reports the Mirror.
